Warta Poznań lost 0:2 to Piast Gliwice in Friday’s match of the 30th round of the PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa. Read what the coaches of both teams said after the match played in Gliwice:
Dawid Szulczek, coach of Warta Poznań: Piast definitely deserved to win. Especially in the first half, because we played poorly, there were a lot of losses and nervousness. We lost games, which is not our style. The second half was more even. If this match took place in autumn, the result would probably be 1:1, but Piast has to make up for the lost points and, in my opinion, he earned them today. There were moments when we could have equalized, but it must be admitted that Piast was better. It’s a pity, because we have a difficult schedule ahead of us and we definitely have to play with the same attitude and approach as in the matches against Korona Kielce and Stal Mielec.
Piast has a lot of quality. The key figure is Patryk Dziczek, who can calm everything down. It seems to me that now Piast players play more compactly than at the beginning of the round and press closer to each other. The defense works better, they don’t allow the opponent many opportunities and the determination is visible. I think this determines the fact that Piast now has its third victory in a row. Today they were also a bit more lucky, because if Adam Zrelak had missed the post and managed to score, we would have played differently.
Aleksandar Vuković, coach of Piast Gliwice: We are happy. Assuming that we will win against Warta is a big mistake, so today our approach gave us a chance to win. Big applause for the team for this. We did not underestimate the team that will take advantage of any sign of being too lax or inattentive. In the first half of the match, we did not allow Warta to do anything in terms of offensive actions. We had the crossbar and, above all, the goal of Kamil Wilczek, who showed off his skills and proved that he is a real striker. This gave us the desired result at half-time. We knew that we had to work hard later, because we were also lucky with Adam Zrelak’s post. We closed the match with a second goal at the end, but even earlier we had opportunities to do it. We look at the last four rounds with great optimism. We have a lot of game ahead of us, but we are slowly leaving the group worried about staying in the league.
