Trainer Shakhtar Donetsk, Roberto De Zerbi, told of the situation in Ukraine. Explosions sounded around the area where the team was staying the night.
Russia and Ukraine are in the middle of a tense conflict in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Russia has also taken up arms by storming major Ukrainian cities.
It is only natural that concern has swept across the people of Russia and Ukraine considering that this conflict can spread to various sectors, including sports.
The Italian coach, Roberto De Zerbi, recounts the horrors in Ukraine. He happens to be the coach of Shakhtar Donetsk.
The entire Shakhtar squad actually had the opportunity to leave the hotel instead of waiting for the certainty of the competition to roll on. While choosing to wait for the sake of the fans, the sound of explosions was heard in the area where the Shakhtar squad were staying overnight.
“There are no heroes here, we are not heroes, but we are really worried,” De Zerbi told Sportitalia.
“Today we woke up early and heard bangs and explosions all around us. We are fine, but the situation is tense. We want to know what happens to us next.”
“This is something that is difficult to explain to our loved ones who have sent messages asking us to come back. At this point, we hope that the Government and embassies will help us. I am optimistic and if I could go back in time, I would. made the same choice,” the former Sassuolo coach insisted.
Shakhtar has 13 players from Brazil. Currently all civil flights are closed and make foreign players and coaches unable to return to their respective countries.
