BRATISLAVA. He will be one of the most experienced members of the Slovak Olympic team in Beijing and he also faces medal expectations.
Swiss Mauro Pini has been Petra Vlhová’s coach since last year and is preparing for one of the biggest challenges of her career with the most successful Slovak athlete today.
“The Olympics are something big, exceptional, that can change your life. One minute of the race, once every four years. Maybe only one chance in his entire career,” Mauro Pini said during a debate with Slovak journalists.

Priority? Stay healthy
Petra Vlhová managed the first half of the season beyond expectations. She dominated the World Cup slalom and secured a small globe in advance in this discipline. Pini, a 56-year-old, also praises his work in the Vlhová team.

“We achieved great results. In the slalom she showed Petra that she is very strong technically, physically and mentally. She won five races and finished second in two, which is amazing. We are also quite satisfied with the huge slalom, although we are not quite at the top yet.
However, with the exception of Kranjska Gora, where conditions were bad, Petra always attacked the leading rungs. I think the team works very well from the beginning. We had a good summer preparation and the decision to leave for the north of Europe in November was also right, “said Pini.
The coach revealed what awaits Vlhová in the last days before she left for China.
