“I understand that this may come as a shock to a lot of people. I absolutely love this club, the city, the players, everyone in the team. But I’m running out of strength and it’s clear to me that I can’t do this job forever,” said Klopp. Last year, he extended his contract at Anfield until 2026.

The successful coach joined Liverpool in October 2015 and led them to their first league title in 30 years in the 2019/20 season. He reached the Champions League final three times with the club and dominated the competition in 2019. In the same year, he won the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup with the Reds. On the domestic stage, he added victories in the FA Cup and the League Cup in the 2021/22 season.
“I announced my decision to the management already in November. Everyone sees coaches coaching the team during games or practices, but the hardest work happens behind the scenes. When we planned reinforcements, concentration and other things before the season, for the first time I doubted whether I would be there in the following years. It surprised me, but naturally I started thinking about it,” said the former long-time coach of Dortmund and Mainz.
Jürgen Klopp will host a special press conference at the AXA Training Centre this afternoon to discuss his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the current season.

Klopp has a great chance to say goodbye to Liverpool with another trophy. The “Reds” advanced to the final of the League Cup on Wednesday, in which they will face Chelsea. They lead the Premier League ahead of defending champions Manchester City and are also in contention in the FA Cup and Europa League.
“There will still be plenty of time to say goodbye. Now I would like us to give everything to the rest of the season and get the most out of it. And so they had more reason to remember in the future,” added Klopp. His assistants will also leave the club in the summer.
