Clairefontaine –
Another national team coach criticized the plan FIFA roll out 2030 World Cup on two continents. Now it’s the coach’s turn French national team Didier Deschamps.
Spain, Portugal and Morocco have been appointed as the main hosts for the 2030 World Cup. However, there are three initial matches taking place in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.
The 2030 World Cup will also mark the 100th anniversary of this event. The most prestigious world football tournament was first held in 1930 in Uruguay.
However, FIFA’s plan has been opposed by several countries who have called for it through their national team coaches. Previously, Gareth Southgate said this cross-continent format made no sense.
The same thing was also expressed by Deschamps as coach of the French national team. According to the man who won the 1998 World Cup as a player and the 2018 World Cup as a coach, the idea of holding tournaments on two continents violates existing sporting ethics and values.
Because there will be several teams who will benefit and suffer losses, thus hurting sportsmanship.
“Despite this being a new trend, holding tournaments in several countries, there is a different aspect when three matches are held in South America,” Deschamps was quoted as saying ESPN.
“I don’t know which countries will be visible, that means Latin American countries will have an advantage and other countries will have to move around.”
“I don’t know who decides that, but honestly I like it when all teams are equal, both in terms of sport and ethics. I don’t think that exists.”
