Coach Arthur Elias’ Emotional Farewell from Corinthians: Brazilian Women’s Championship Triumph

Arthur Elias lifted another trophy, but the fifth Brazilian Women’s Championship with Corinthians had an extra emotion: it was the last time he led the Brabas on the edge of the Neo Química Arena lawn. He — who has 15 cups with Alvinegro — is still competing in the Libertadores next month before completely taking over the Brazilian women’s team.

Tributes

Arrival at the stadium was filled with emotional statements. Arthur has been demonstrating this feeling since confirming his place in the national team.

“I’m enjoying every moment to the fullest. I’m going to live with a lot of intensity, joy and pride, but a lot of focus on what I need to do”, he declared moments before the ball rolled.

And he had to hold back crying right from the start. Upon entering the field, he saw the fans raise a mosaic with the words “thank you, Arthur”. The coach thanked him for the honor with applause.

At the press conference after the game, Corinthians showed a video with behind-the-scenes moments from the coach and also presented him with an official shirt.

No crying during the game, but after…

Despite the emotional burden, Arthur assured that he was focused solely on the match, not only in the 90 minutes, but throughout the week. The coach only really started to cry at the final whistle, when he could no longer hold back the tears.

At the edge of the field, he spent every moment moving around, following the players and giving instructions. At the first stop, when goalkeeper Lelê needed medical attention, she took the opportunity to gesture and talk a lot with the group.

Jheniffer’s goal revived Arthur Elias, but the honor came with a goal from captain Tamires. The scorer of the goal of the black and white comeback pulled the coach away from the ball of players and bowed to him.

The arm doesn’t get tired [de levantar taças]. For me, it is a privilege to be part of all of this. I am very grateful to every fan who came, to every fan who watched. Arthur [Elias] and to Grazi [meia-atacante do Corinthians] They deserve to live what they lived today. It’s an honor to be part of all this work Tamires

Emotional post-game

The game had barely ended and Corinthians had already put a “thank you, Arthur Elias” on the big screen at Neo Química.

The coach was embraced by the entire cast and coaching staff of the women’s team and was moved. In some of the hugs, it was possible to see a long conversation.

With tribute also on the sound system, the fans sang Arthur’s name loudly.

As a form of gratitude, the coach made a heart and collapsed on the lawn., being embraced by all the players. He was still thrown up.

We’re a little bit in the mood to say goodbye, but we don’t focus or talk about it much [saída do Arthur Elias]. We got very emotional at the end, because we know it’s his last match here at Neo Química Arena. Gabi Portilho

At the press conference, he answered questions normally, but made a point of once again praising the club’s director of women’s football, Cris Gambaré. She also got emotional before the ball rolled when talking about him.

Finally, he received some applause and was even called “King Arthur”.

Regarding the future in the Brazilian team, Gabi Portilho has already said: “I’m really rooting for him there. I think he’s going to change a lot of things, not just on the field, but to make people understand what women’s football is and I think he’s going to surprise a lot of people”

black and white sovereignty

Arthur Elias took over Corinthians eight years ago and transformed the then Audax/Corinthians into a national reference.

He led Brabas to five Brazilian titles, two Libertadores cups and three Campeonato Paulistas. In total, there are 15 trophies in the coach’s account.

The coach is now looking to say goodbye to Corinthians with their third Copa Libertadores title. After the continental competition, in October, he will dedicate himself exclusively to the Brazilian team.
