(CNN) – The US Embassy in Israel announced, on Sunday, that it will assist its citizens in evacuating by sea, in a security alert published by the embassy on its official website.

According to the embassy, the ship will depart from the port of Haifa (the city in northern Israel) on Monday and travel approximately 10 to 12 hours to Cyprus, where only US citizens and their immediate family members will be eligible to depart.

US citizens and their families will be responsible for arranging their accommodation and travel from Cyprus, according to the embassy announcement.

It is noteworthy that the Palestinian-Americans were waiting for the opening of the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt on Saturday, after the US State Department sent instructions to their families on Friday, telling them that the crossing “may be open” on Saturday afternoon.
