She has been off screen for the past four weeks and at the beginning of her interview program Monday night, she explained why she was absent for so long. “I had a successful surgery to remove ovarian cancer,” Christiane said. “I will be undergoing chemotherapy for the next few months. That is the best possible long-term prognosis and I am confident in it.”

After talking about her surgery and chemotherapy, Amanpour said she wants to encourage women to educate themselves about the disease. “Do all the regular screenings and scans you can get, always listen to your body and make sure your legitimate medical concerns are not rejected or diminished.”
