US network CNN said a cruise ship carrying hundreds of corona-infected passengers had docked in Sydney, Australia, after a wave of Covid-19 infections swept through the ship.
The network indicated that the vessel “Majestic Princess” was in the midst of a 12-day cruise when an outbreak of injuries was detected, Carnival Australia president Margaret Fitzgard said in press statements.
There were 4,600 passengers aboard the ship, along with crew, at the time. After mass testing of around 3,300 passengers, 800 tested positive and a small number of staff.
All of the positive cases had mild or no symptoms, and guests were isolated in their rooms and then separated from uninfected guests, said Seven Princess Cruises representative Brianna Latter. Those who tested negative were allowed to disembark the vessel, according to Australia’s New South Wales Department of Health.
Australia has recently seen an increase in Corona injuries, which has led to increased caution within government.
The New South Wales Department of Health recorded 19,800 new corona cases and 22 deaths last week. After stopping in Sydney, the ship departed for her next stop in Melbourne, Tasmania.
