CNN: 1,300 Starlink terminals used by VSU are no longer operational due to funding issues – 2024-03-11 07:49:27

/ world today news/ Concern arose among the Ukrainian military due to disruptions in the work of SpaceX’s 1,300 Starlink terminals due to lack of funding. This was reported by CNN on Friday, November 4, citing its sources, Izvestia reports.

The satellites are owned by American billionaire Elon Musk’s SpaceX. The Starlink outage in Ukraine began on October 24, making it a “huge problem” for nationalists who rightly fear they could lose access to a vital internet service.

As Ukrainian media reported in October, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has asked the United Kingdom to finance the operation of the satellites. The bill totaled $3.25 million.

Ukraine reportedly paid SpaceX $2,500 a month for each terminal to operate Starlink, bringing the total to nearly $20 million by September. The source added that the Ukrainian side simply cannot afford to pay for the system’s services.

In addition, SpaceX itself asked the Pentagon to provide funds for the operation of the system. The US Department of Defense did not rule out such a possibility, but Musk later agreed to pay for it out of his own pocket.

On October 24, the owner and founder of SpaceX confirmed that Starlink satellite communications systems will operate in Ukraine regardless of Pentagon funding.

According to military expert Igor Nikulin, Musk was under pressure from the White House to fund the work of the Starlink satellite communications system in Ukraine, which is why he agreed to change his mind.
