A famous nightclub dubbed “Europe’s worst” and once owned by Dominic Cummings’ family will reopen this weekend, six months after it suddenly closed.
Durham’s Clute gained a reputation as the “best and worst night out” when it was owned by the uncle of Boris Johnson’s former adviser.
Cummings himself worked as a bouncer at the club and said he found the job serving drunk customers very useful for his political career.
The closure of the famous nightspot last spring sparked outrage from students and locals, who launched a petition to reopen it.
But its management announced on Instagram this week that the venue was “back” for the first time tonight, prompting cheers from its legions of fans.

Klute was previously owned by Cummings’ uncle, but was taken over by Tokyo Industries in 2013.

A spokesperson said: “You heard right, Clute is back.” In fact, Klute never left.
However, the future of the nightspot remains uncertain and business owners admit they are “testing the waters.”
Known for its sweaty interior, cheesy music and use of ‘That’s Amore’ to mark closing time, Clute was once voted the second worst nightclub in Europe by FHM magazine.
But the place won first place after another one caught fire.
The club was owned by the Cummings family for decades until Tokyo Industries took it over in 2013.
The company closed last year without much explanation after 40 years of operation.
At the time, Cummings paid tribute to Clute, where he once worked as a bouncer.

Klute, known for its catchy dance floor, cheesy tunes and packed atmosphere, closed its doors for the last time on April 20.

And he added: “Few people know that my father and my uncle named it after watching the classic 70s movie; If you haven’t, check it out (maybe Startup Party can buy the building for our north headquarters…).
Klute became famous for its signature ‘Quadis’, which consists of four shots of vodka with fruit juice mixers, although these were later watered down after city council intervention.
The company behind the club has never confirmed the reason for the closure nor made a public statement.
