FC Twente has achieved an easy victory over Heracles Almelo in the Premier League. In Enschede the Twente derby ended 5-0.

Both teams seemed to be a bit confused after the clocks were turned back an hour last night for winter time. Almost the entire first half of Twente-Heracles seemed to drag on in a daze, the pace was so slow, without any real big opportunities.

Own goal

Mimeirhel Benita from Heracles changed that in the 38th minute. The right back received the ball into the feet of goalkeeper Fabian de Keijzer, who positioned himself to the left of his goal. Benita had to take care of the build-up, but was put under pressure and quickly played the ball back to his own goal mouth.

But De Keijzer was still standing to the left of the post. And so the ball rolled into our own goal: 1-0.

It was the fifth own goal of this Premier League weekend, a record. Never before have so many own goals been scored in a single match, according to statistics agency Gracenote.

Cheer up

After that things went quickly. Striker Sam Lammers had swerved to the left corner and delivered a careful cross. Anass Salah-Eddine, who came in, pressed. De Keijzer was still there, but could not turn the shot enough: 2-0.

Despite the absence of attackers Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Mitchell van Bergen due to flu and injury, it was an easy afternoon for Twente. Replacements Daan Rots and Sayfallah Ltaief proved to be excellent alternatives.

It was a welcome boost for Twente after the hopeless loss against Lazio (0-2) in the Europa League on Thursday, partly due to an early red card from goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall. After last season’s impressive third place, the club has already lost twelve points this year and coach Joseph Oosting sees his team back in sixth place in the Premier League.

In the second half, Twente continued to overpower the Almelo team. Defender Mees Hilgers headed home the 3-0 from a corner kick by Michel Vlap.

A fourth goal soon followed, from Eredivisie top scorer Sem Steijn. But the midfielder’s goal did not count, because reporter Sayfallah Ltaief was offside. The fourth goal came in the last fifteen minutes: striker Lammers scored his goal by completing a nice attack.

Laughed out loud

During injury time, the Twente audience repeatedly sang: “Auf Wiedersehen”. The chanting was interrupted by another goal, from Michel Vlap, who had not yet scored this season.

It was a hard blow for Heracles, which has dropped to the bottom regions of the competition and has conceded no fewer than 13 goals in the last three games.
