Clubs are demanding a new list of penalties – FCM is holding back

Magdeburg/DUR – For years there have been heated discussions between associations, clubs, fans and politicians about punishment for pyrotechnics in German stadiums. Further measures for this will be discussed in a conference on Friday.

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf, DFL Supervisory Board Chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke and the interior ministers of the federal states will meet in Munich on Friday.

While politicians like Joachim Herrmann (CSU) are in favor of harsher penalties for setting off pyrotechnics, there are some clubs that are in favor of relief. Herrmann has already called for personalized tickets, partial exclusion of spectators and even game cancellations as possible consequences.

FCM is not in favor of new pyrotechnic penalties

1. FC Magdeburg has spoken out against the high pyrotechnic penalties several times in the past. In the past season, the FCM had to pay a total of 299,700 euros to the DFB. For the new season the fines are already around 70,000 euros.

In advance of the conference, a position paper was sent to the 36 DFL clubs at the end of September. 13 clubs spoke out in favor of reforming the catalog of penalties.

The associations are demanding: Instead of just counting the number of ignited pyrotechnic objects, as is currently the case, the danger potential of pyrotechnic flares should be taken into account in the future. First, a basic punishment is determined, which can either be made more severe or less severe depending on the individual case.

According to the portal, people voted for the reform of pyrotechnic punishments “The wrong 9“including Hansa Rostock, Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund and Hamburger SV.

Despite sharp criticism of the DFB’s approach, the FCM did not advocate a renewal of the catalog.
