Clubs advocate age limit instead of 1.5 meter rule

Amsterdam clubs want permission for alternatives to the ‘1.5-meter rules’ that will soon apply when the catering industry is allowed to open again. They see more in an age limit and measuring the temperature of visitors at the door.

That reports The Parool. The 26 clubs, including Jimmy Woo, Bitterzoet, Escape, Marktkantine, Panama, Melkweg and Paradiso, have sent a letter about this to the city council.

They believe that keeping a meter and a half away in a club does not work. Last week Bitterzoet published a video on social media in which they showed what the nightlife would look like. “It is not possible,” owner Bas Louwers told AT5 at the time.

Only in their twenties and thirties

The clubs propose to allow, for example, only people in their twenties and thirties, for whom the chance of infection would be much smaller. They are also thinking of increasing the number of lockers and cleaning much more often. They want to discuss possible options with the municipality.

There is a fear among the clubs that they may not open again until 1 September, the same date that already applies to festivals and events. “If this takes longer, it will be really difficult. We are all in expensive locations, staff costs are not fully reimbursed, ‘said chairman Pieter de Kroon of the Amsterdam Clubs Consultation against the newspaper.
