Bart van Rooij will remain with NEC. The 21-year-old right back will soon sign a new contract that will keep him in Nijmegen until the summer of 2025.
Van Rooij has been playing at NEC since he was nine years old. He made his debut in the main force in February 2019 and so far the counter stands at 131 official duels. “Players with this quality and potential are in demand in the market and that is why it was sometimes a roller coaster for Bart to come to a decision. In all conversations it was always mentioned that he also thought it was important that he wanted something in return for NEC and the public by not leaving the club on a free transfer. Then you are rightfully a club man,” says technical director Carlos Aalbers at the club site.
The protagonist is also happy with his contract extension. “I have made no secret of the fact that I have considered various options, as well as I have always indicated that NEC is my club. I have been walking around here for almost thirteen years and have experienced promotion to the Eredivisie. I want to continue together in the coming seasons to grow.”
