The club goes into the winter break with 30 points, a more than satisfactory result and the keeping of a promise that this year will probably have nothing to do with the relegation battle. And the comparison after 18 matchdays can also be proven in figures compared to the previous year: 10 points more on the account, 8 fewer goals conceded – only the hits scored are only marginally improved (27 instead of 25). Marginal, but the difference, as in the game against Aue. Despite a nearly balanced scoring record and ultimately even negative ball possession ratio, Dovedan’s 3: 1 in the 81st minute was rather a late cap on a game that should have been decided in favor of Nuremberg long ago.
At half-time, the club started almost perfectly as a guest: played only 2 minutes and the hosts’ alleged defensive concept was turned on its head. Dovedan, who was often reviled, took a corner kick in the penalty area and the ball found its way into the mesh through friend and foe. But instead of deciding the game after another 3 minutes, Dovedan failed again alone in front of Mannel, the hosts equalized after 8 minutes – Jan Hochscheidt was not offside, but centrally free in front of Mathenia. A hit with predicate: played too carelessly offside.
But the club stayed on the trigger, created opportunities and came back to the lead after 22 minutes through Dovedan: Shuranov managed the double from 6 meters after preparatory work. Hardly two turns of the pointer later almost equalization, but Mathenia knows how to prevent this. So it went into the break with a guided tour and increased opportunities.
The game after the break was much lower in level, sometimes even almost like a friendly game – so many ball losses, missed opportunities due to sloppy passes and, above all, lack of pressure on the ball carrier – it seemed tried on both sides, but not really poisonous and determined. So it wouldn’t have been surprising if someone had slipped in at the end, but in the end Dovedan made it 3-1. And that’s the difference this season.
Relegation place for a moment – but it will not be enough for wintering, because Schalke and Hamburg are still playing against each other and so in any case one will pass even if there is a draw. Regensburg still has that in hand. Nevertheless, this away win remains evidence of a successful path that the club has taken with Hecking and Klauss. The club did not resurrect as if by magic, but has gradually stabilized and makes fewer mistakes overall, which ultimately leads to more points. You are not a top team in League 2, but the game in seventeenth in the table was too hanging by a thread. But who is a top team in League 2?
