Club Brugge recorded a very big 7-0 victory against Sint-Truiden on its own field. Christos Tzolis crowned himself the match winner with four goals, while Onyedika, Jashari and Vanaken also scored a goal.
Nicky Hayen made three changes to the team that drew against Beerschot two weeks ago. At the back, Spileers and De Cuyper replaced Ordóñez and the injured Meijer, while at the right front Talbi was preferred to Skov Olsen. Vermant started again as a center forward and also provided the first Bruges danger. However, his shot was easily saved by goalkeeper Kokubo. Shortly before, STVV could also have threatened with Brahimi’s shot that flew over the crossbar.
Blauw-Zwart constantly camped in Sint-Truiden’s half and took the lead after just over ten minutes. After a good interception from Seys, Vermant served Tzolis and the Greek shot the goal across the corner in one go. The visitors tried to respond, but got no further than Bertaccini’s free kick that went well wide via the wall. On the other hand, it was Club that was able to double its lead halfway through the first half. Onyedika’s ball caprioled back into the field via the underside of the crossbar, where Tzolis was quick to head in the rebound.
After the 2-0, the people of Bruges slowed down a bit, but shortly before half-time they started looking for a third goal again. A half-volley from Tzolis zoomed over the bar, while Kokubo fell flat on a shot from Jashari. Moments later the goalkeeper had an excellent reflex on a header from Vermant. Ogawa then wanted to clear the ball, but De Cuyper got to the ball a little earlier, causing the Japanese to tackle him in the sixteen meters. Penalty ruled by ref Vergoote. Captain Vanaken awarded the ball to Tzolis, completing the Greek’s hat trick.
After the break, the people of Bruges continued their momentum. After a beautiful deep ball from Jashari, Talbi gave the lesson to Tzolis and he beautifully painted his fourth goal into the goal. A few minutes later the forfeit score was even on the board. Talbi put the ball back to Onyedika, who curled the 5-0 perfectly into the goal. And before the hour mark it was actually 6-0, when Ardon Jashari shot the ball in from the corner.
The Canaries were completely outflanked, although they still had a few chances together. Mignolet had to save Ito’s shot, Belaid’s header went over goal and when Bertaccini rounded Mignolet, Nhaili was unable to capitalize on his put-back. Club kept a clean sheet and eventually managed to score a seventh time through Hans Vanaken. Jutglà and Skov Olsen missed an eighth goal in the final phase. The visitors eventually ended the match with one man less, after Delpupo got red when he was too aggressive on Skóraś. Thanks to this victory and Antwerp’s loss of points, Club Brugge moves to second place in the rankings.
