15,000 fans Tuesday evening in Bruges. And anyone who looked towards the stage in detail was guaranteed to shed a tear for the unannounced reunion of the original Clouseau family. “Our pianist David Thomaere is currently on a Christmas tour with Axelle Red. But because Hans wanted to fill in, we were still able to perform at De Warmste Week. We are very grateful to him,” Koen and Kris Wauters said via their manager. “Hans played excellently by the way!” And with pleasure, says the man who was Clouseau’s regular producer and pianist for 23 years: “Sure, it’s great to be on stage together again and play like we used to. Especially for a good cause like De Warmste Week.”
Together they filled more than 100 Sportpaleis shows and played hundreds of stages in Belgium and the Netherlands. But after 23 years and 6 gold and platinum studio albums, Francken left Clouseau in early 2022. As discoverer and manager of Metejoor, he has his hands more than full today, especially with the combination as producer and pianist at concerts and studio shows such as ‘The Voice van Vlaanderen’. “But if Koen and Kris ask me to step in and I can, I immediately do so with full enthusiasm,” he says. “When David had corona, I also stepped in. After all these years, Clouseau’s repertoire is still in my fingers, it won’t just go away.” Does Hans regret not being able to attend the twelve upcoming Sportpaleis concerts next year? “We did all the other Sportpaleis together, and that was fantastic. But I have passed on the torch, Koen and Kris are well provided for with David now.”
