Philippine Weather Update: Heavy Rains and Strong Winds forecast
The Philippines is bracing for a period of unsettled weather, with several weather systems impacting different regions of the archipelago. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Governance (PAGASA) has issued warnings for heavy rainfall and strong winds across various areas.
The Intertropical convergence Zone (ITCZ) is expected to bring cloudy skies, scattered showers, and thunderstorms to visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan. Residents in these areas, including Romblon, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate, should be prepared for the possibility of flash floods and landslides due to the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, a shear line will affect the eastern portions of Northern and Central Luzon, bringing similar conditions to the Bicol Region, Quezon, Marinduque, Aurora, Isabela, quirino, and Cagayan. Again, the risk of flash flooding and landslides remains high due to the forecast of moderate to heavy rainfall at times.
Northern Luzon, including the Cordillera Administrative Region and the remaining areas of cagayan Valley and ilocos Norte, will experience cloudy skies and rain due to the Northeast Monsoon (amihan). Similar to other affected regions, the potential for flash floods and landslides exists due to the forecast of moderate to heavy rainfall at times. The Ilocos Region, however, is expected to see only partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, posing a less significant threat.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon are also under a weather advisory, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers or thunderstorms anticipated due to the shear line. Severe thunderstorms could lead to flash floods and landslides in these areas as well.
Northern Luzon can expect moderate to strong winds blowing northeastward, resulting in moderate to rough coastal waters. The rest of the country will experience lighter winds from the east to northeast, with slight to moderate coastal waters.
Sunrise is expected at 6:22 a.m., and sunset at 5:39 p.m. “The ITCZ, Shear line, and Northeast Monsoon are impacting various regions,” PAGASA reported.
This weather advisory highlights the importance of preparedness during the rainy season. Residents in affected areas are urged to monitor weather reports closely and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property. Staying informed is crucial for minimizing risks associated with severe weather events.
