Bheki is still evolving as a tropical depression. At 4 a.m., it was centered around the point 20.2 degrees South in latitude and 58.6 degrees East in longitude, approximately 115 km east of Mauritius. It is moving west-southwest at around 20 km/h. Clouds in the Bheki circulation influence the local weather. A heavy rain watch, a strong wind warning and a heavy swell warning remain in force in Mauritius until 4 p.m. this Thursday, November 21.
The sky will be mostly cloudy across the island with showers. Showers will sometimes be of moderate intensity and could be temporarily heavy in certain regions with risk of thunderstorms. Pockets of fog are expected mainly over high ground.
A southerly wind will blow from 35 to 45 km/h with gusts of up to 100 km/h this morning. The wind will gradually shift towards the northern sector during the day and will blow at a reduced speed of around 30 km/h with gusts of 60 km/h at the end of the afternoon. It is advisable to be very careful when maneuvering at height and also on the road due to crosswinds.
The high seas will be very strong with swells and the waves will be around 4 to 6 meters. Swells will also influence lagoons and waves could break along low-lying coastal areas during high tides. Fishermen, boaters and the general public are strongly advised not to go out to sea and not to venture along the beaches. There are indications that waves will begin to gradually ease late this afternoon.
The maximum temperature will vary between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius on the Central Plateau and between 29 and 31 degrees Celsius on the coast. During the night, the minimum temperature will vary between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius on the Central Plateau and between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius in the coastal regions.
