Cloth falls for British airline Flybe, aircraft on the ground

The British airline Flybe has requested a deferment of payment and has stopped all activities. The planes remain on the ground from today.

The airline urgently asks travelers not to come to the airport. In a statement, Flybe says that it is unfortunately unable to offer replacement flights. Customers are referred to their travel organization.

Flybe has not been able to get the necessary financial assistance in recent weeks. The airline has around 75 aircraft and flew at more than eighty airports in the United Kingdom and Europe. It had not been going well for a while, but Flybe got further into trouble due to the corona virus outbreak. As a result, far fewer airline tickets were sold.

Rescue attempt failed

Recently it seemed that the company with 2000 employees could still be saved because the British government wanted to come to the rescue. But British Airways mother IAG and price fighter Ryanair protested; the competitors saw the aid plans as illegal state aid.

The financial problems at Flybe are not isolated. Industry counterparts such as Monarch Airlines, Air Berlin, Wow Air and Aigle Azur and a series of smaller players have already died. Tour operator Thomas Cook, who had his own aircraft, also recently went bankrupt.
