Closure of 3 Var massifs for high fire risk » PACA’s economic and political newsletter

FOREST FIRE PREVENTION – Saturday July 30, 2022, the Monts Toulonnais, Sainte Baume and Haut Var massifs (in red on the map) are closed for high fire risk.

Access, circulation and presence prohibited.

The Corniche des Maures, Maures, Center Var and Plateau de Canjuers massifs are at serious risk. Access to them is not recommended and work prohibited except for agricultural, forestry or work of a general interest nature from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. This work must be accompanied by an extinguishing device. During the summer, in order to prevent forest fires, access to the forests of the department as well as traffic and parking on certain roads are regulated. Until mid-September, an interactive map with the possibility of locating oneself is published every day, before 7 p.m., for the next day, on the portal of state services in the Var. It provides information on the possibilities of access and the regulations for work in the Var forests.

This card is accessible to everyone on www.var.gouv.fr through the following link: http://www.var.gouv.fr/acces-aux-massifs-forestiers-du-var-a2898.html and on the Twitter account
https://twitter.com/Prefet83 as well as on the Facebook page of state services in the Var: https://www.facebook.com/Prefet83

Access to the forest massifs and the possibilities of work are regulated according to the weather conditions and the fire risk by a color scale:

Green colour: access to the massif and works are authorised.
Yellow colour: access to the massif is authorized, work is authorized with prescription and under the responsibility of the site manager
Orange colour: penetration into the massifs is not recommended and work is prohibited, except by derogation.
Red colour: access to the forest massifs is prohibited outside ZAPEF (public reception area in the forest) and work is prohibited.
Extreme red color: all access and work in the massifs are prohibited. EXTREME vigilance is required.

Nine out of ten forest fires are of human origin and one in two is linked to recklessness.

To protect yourself from fires and preserve vegetation, let’s adopt the right reflexes:

> Respect the bans on access to the massifs;
> Fire and barbecue prohibited near forests;
> No smoking in the forest;
> Throw cigarette butts in the ashtray and not through the window of your vehicle;
> Do not carry out work, sources of sparks, near vegetation;
> Witnessing a fire starting, call 18 or 112.
