All information about the situation on the motorways around Cologne at a glance: There are currently closures and construction work on the A1, A3, A4, A40, A44, A61 and A553.
Cologne – Anyone who is currently on the highways needs a lot of patience on some routes. Because there is a lot going on on the motorways in North Rhine-Westphalia – traffic jams, disruptions and closures shape the streets. In order for drivers to get to their destination, they have to plan delays and detours. Where are there currently bottlenecks?
A4 near Düren in the direction of Cologne: Blocking lifted – serious truck accident
- The full closure on the A4 in the direction of Cologne after a fatal truck accident between Düren and Merzenich was canceled again.
A1, A3, A4, A31, A40, A43, A44, A61, A542, A553: There are disruptions, closures or traffic jams on these motorways
- A1 between Cologne-Lövenich and Cologne-Bocklemünd in the direction of Dortmund: only three narrow lanes free
- A1 At the Leverkusen-West junction in the direction of Cologne, the connection to the A59 to Leverkusen is closed due to construction work
- A1 between Hürth and Dreieck Erftstadt: full closure in both directions
- A1/A61: The route between Kreuz Bliesheim and Dreieck Erfttal towards Venlo / Dortmund is completely closed. There, the streetcar will be renovated by the end of 2021.
- A3 Junction Bonn / Siegburg: From October 7th at 9 p.m. until probably 5 a.m. on October 25th, it is not possible to cross from the A560 from Hennef to the A3 in the direction of Frankfurt
- A3 between Lohmar and Kreuz Bonn / Siegburg: In the direction of Frankfurt there will be fewer lanes available until mid-October
- A4 when turning in the district of Olpe, only one lane is free in both directions. The section between Wenden and the Krombach district in Kreuztal is affected. The reason is bridge work. (Period from September 28th to the end of November)
- A40 Bochum junction in the direction of Essen: Wednesday (October 13th) and Thursday (October 14th) the connection to the A43 in the direction of Münster is closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to wood care work
- A40 between Dreieck-Bochum West and Bochum-Zentrum: Closure in the direction of Dortmund until the end of November
- A40 Between Mülheim-Heißen and Duisburg-Kaiserberg: From Friday (October 8th) at 8 p.m. to Monday (October 18) at 5 a.m. the A40 between the junctions Mülheim-Heißen and Duisburg-Kaiserberg in the direction of Venlo is closed
- A43 between Kreuz Herne and Kreuz Recklinghausen: The A43 bridge over the Rhine-Herne Canal is closed to trucks over 3.5 tons. The connections in Kreuz Recklinghausen from the A2 to the A43 in the direction of Wuppertal and in the Kreuz Herne from the A42 to the A43 in the direction of Münster are closed to all traffic. The Recklinghausen-Hochlarmark junction in the direction of Wuppertal is also closed
- A44 Aachen-Brand junction: In the direction of Belgium, the Aachen-Brand junction will be completely closed from Monday (October 11th) to probably Wednesday (November 10th)
- A61 between Meckenheim and Swisttal-Heimerzheim: closure in the direction of Mönchengladbach / Venlo. The section between Swisttal and Weilerswist can be used again for local traffic.
- A61 between the “Goldene Meile” rest area and the Sinzig triangle: only one lane in the direction of Koblenz
- A542: From Wednesday (October 13th) to Friday (October 22nd) it is not possible to drive onto the A542 to the Langenfeld motorway triangle at the Langenfeld-Immigrath junction. A diversion is signposted with a red dot.
- A553 Kreuz Bliesheim: Connection to A1 in the direction of Cologne closed due to construction work until July 31, 2022
- Note: Autobahn GmbH Rheinland expects an increased volume of traffic during the autumn holidays. The A1, A3, A4, A31, A40, A45 and A57 routes will be severely affected

A1, A40, A44, A45, A57, A542: These construction sites and bottlenecks are coming
- A1: From Friday (October 15), 9 p.m. to Sunday (October 17), 6 p.m., only one lane can be used on the A1 in the direction of Koblenz in the area of the Köln-Nord motorway junction.
- A1/A57: From Thursday (October 14th), 8:00 a.m. to Sunday (October 17th), 6:00 p.m., it is not possible to cross from the A1 (from Dortmund) to the 57 (to Cologne) at the Köln-Nord motorway junction. The same applies to the crossing from the A57 (from Cologne) to the A1 (to Koblenz). Diversions via the Köln-Chorweiler junction are signposted with a red dot.
- A4 Between Merzenich and Elsdorf: In the direction of Cologne, only one lane is free from October 15 at 9 a.m. to October 17 (early evening). Repair work must be carried out after a serious accident
- A44/A45: From 7 p.m. on Thursday (October 14) to 6 a.m. on Friday (October 15), the connecting lane from the A44 to the A45 in the direction of Dortmund / Hanover is completely closed. The road is being repaired.
- A45 Kreuz Westhofen in the direction of Frankfurt: Thursday (October 14th) the connection to the A1 in the direction of Bremen is closed due to wood care work
- A45: The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit in the direction of Frankfurt is closed from Friday (October 15) at 7 p.m. to Saturday (October 16) at 6 a.m. The road is being repaired.
- A46 between Haan-Ost and Wuppertal-Cronenberg: From Friday (October 15) from 8 p.m. to Monday (October 18) at 5 a.m. on the A46 in the construction site between Haan-Ost and Wuppertal-Cronenberg there is only one in both directions Lanes free.
- A57: Due to a bridge installation from October 15 (10 p.m.) to October 18 (5 a.m.) between the Meerbusch motorway junction and the Krefeld-Oppum junction will be closed

Floods in NRW: disruptions and traffic jams on A1, A61 and A3 near Cologne and Leverkusen
The flood disaster caused massive damage to the motorways in July. In the Rhineland alone, around 90 kilometers of motorways are affected by flood damage. Autobahn GmbH Rheinland recorded most of the damage on the A1 and A61 motorways, some of which are still completely closed. But there is still positive news: the section of the A61 between Erftstadt-Gymnich and Kerpen-Türnich is open again in the direction of Venlo and the blockade has been lifted.
