The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch received, on Thursday in Rabat, Mrs. Alice Albright, Chief Executive Officer of the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC), who is visiting Morocco on the occasion of the closing of Compact II of the MCA- Morocco, whose closing ceremony was co-chaired by the Head of Government and the CEO of the MCC.
During this meeting, the Head of Government expressed his thanks to the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the government of the United States of America for the development support they provide to Morocco, which was able to benefit from two cooperation programs , Compacts I and II, says a statement from the Head of Government’s Department.
The Head of Government affirmed Morocco’s aspiration to strengthen this partnership and consolidate it by capitalizing on the positive results achieved, as well as the innovative approaches and good practices implemented within the framework of these two compacts.
He stressed that compact II constitutes a consecration of the strategic partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America, as a lever for development combining investments for the upgrading of infrastructure in strategic sectors in our country, to the institutional and structural reforms in which Morocco has embarked, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King.
The closing of Compact II of the MCA-Morocco program was an opportunity to take stock of the significant achievements made within the framework of this program, endowed with a budget of 460 million dollars by the Millennium Challenge Corporation, to which s added a contribution from the Moroccan government of an amount exceeding 120 million dollars, which represents about double the threshold set at 15% of the American contribution.
Compact II of the MCA-Morocco program, launched in 2017, will expire on March 31, 2023, in accordance with the provisions of the agreement concluded with the MCC. In this regard, a decree-law was issued, relating to the dissolution and liquidation of the MCA-Morroco Agency, under the provisions of the law establishing the agency. The agency’s liquidation operation will be completed on July 29, 2023.
