Closed schools: Middle and high school students call for abstinence – Rally in Propylaia –

A call for closed schools, abstinence from classes and mobilizations was addressed by the Student Coordination Committee of Athens for today, Monday 4/11.

In Athens, a rally is planned at 12:00 in the Propylaea. In Thessaloniki the appointment is at 11:00 at the Venizelos Statue, in Patras at 12:00 in Georgiou Square, in Larissa at 1:00 in the central square. Mobilizations are organized in dozens of other cities.

“On November 4th,” the students say, “the Ministry of Education is expelling us.” The main slogan is “we pocketed our cell phone, but you made a mess of our school”.

No widespread school closures are expected

Despite the fact that the students’ call for abstinence and marches has caused concern among parents and teachers, there is not expected to be a generalized closure of school units.

The Board of Directors of ELME Piraeus supports the mobilization called by students on Monday 4/11 at 12:00 in Propylaia.

The Coordinating Committee states, among other things:

“Bring us books and professors, not mergers and expulsions. Those who struggle are not criminals – Hear what we ask, don’t be absent […] In a crappy and boring school, the pain caught you for the cell phone […] Give money for Education, in a little while we will pay to have desks! […]

Expulsion will get the government – the Ministry, which only makes our school a mess. Discount taxes and prices, not classes and teachers. Absences – expulsions – cut trips, only punishment for students? […] We will compete, we will also go on excursions! We are not afraid of threats”.
