Thailand Launches Nationwide HPV Vaccination Campaign to Combat Cervical ​Cancer

In a bold move ⁢to prioritize public health, the Thai government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and five affiliated agencies, has ​launched a‍ nationwide ⁤campaign to‌ accelerate HPV vaccination. Titled “Hurry‌ to Close the HPV Cancer Switch,” the initiative ⁢aims⁢ to combat cervical cancer ‌by offering free 9-valent HPV vaccines to⁢ Thai children and youth.

The campaign,which kicked off with a high-profile​ event at Mega​ Bangna Shopping Center from ​January 24 ‌to 26,2025,featured celebrities​ like Phos-Book,Nutni Manee,and Mix Chalermsri,who encouraged the public ⁤to get vaccinated. The event also included educational exhibitions, free HPV self-collection testing, and discounted vaccination services ⁢from private partners like HDMALL⁢ and Winmed.The Urgency of HPV Prevention
HPV, or⁤ Human Papillomavirus, is a common virus ⁣that can lead to severe health complications, ‌including cervical cancer, ​oral and neck cancer, anal cancer, and other ⁤genital cancers.According ‍to the Ministry of Public⁢ Health,⁣ cervical cancer ‍is the second moast common cancer among Thai women aged 15-44, with one Thai person dying from HPV-related cancers⁢ every two hours.

The 9-valent HPV vaccine, ​which⁤ has been approved by the Thai food and Drug Administration, offers up to ​94% protection against cervical cancer and covers four additional ⁢cancers. ⁤It is administered in two doses ​for⁢ those aged 9-14 and three doses for those aged 15-45.government and Private ⁤Sector Collaboration

Dr. Thanakrit Chit Arirat,‍ Assistant Minister of the Ministry of⁢ Public Health, emphasized ​the government’s ​commitment to ‍improving ‍public health. “In 2025,we ‌are focusing on preventing cervical cancer ⁢in children and youth. That’s why we are ​rolling out the 9-valent HPV vaccine nationwide,” he stated.

The vaccination program targets girls aged 11-20, with services​ available through schools, provincial health offices, and hospitals. The campaign also includes home vaccination services from Morch and consultations ⁣from MSD Thailand.
