CLM finances the production of nearly 80 theatre, music and dance companies

The Government of Emiliano García-Page has financed nearly 80 theatre, music, dance and circus companies in recent years, thanks to production grants. This was highlighted by the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, Carmen Teresa Olmedo, at the inauguration, at the Gran Teatro de Manzanares, of the ‘Lazarillo’ International Festival of Contemporary Classical Theatre.

In her speech, Carmen Teresa Olmedo highlighted that these grants, worth almost two million euros since their launch, were recovered by the Government of Emiliano García-Page in 2018, “thus providing a breath of fresh air to a sector that suffered greatly from the 2008 crisis and the successive VAT increases promoted by other governments.”

He also recalled that the regional government’s support for theatre is also materialised through other channels such as the Castilla-La Mancha Performing and Musical Arts Network, “which will host more than 670 performances in more than 220 municipalities in the ‘Autumn 2024’ season alone”.

“It is a firm commitment to theatre that has not wavered even in such difficult times as the pandemic. It is a clear commitment to promoting a sector that not only contributes to entertaining us, but also to raising awareness and making us better as a society, at a time when hoaxes and obscurantism are gaining ground,” he said.

Focusing on the ‘Lazarillo’ International Contemporary Theatre Festival in Manzanares, the cultural manager congratulated the organisation on its 50th birthday, while also being pleased to attend the opening of an exhibition that, in her opinion, “speaks face to face with the most relevant in the country”.

Carmen Teresa Olmedo has also reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Emiliano García-Page to the theatre show, as conveyed by the second vice-president of the regional Government, José Manuel Caballero, in a recent meeting.

The ‘Lazarillo’ International Contemporary Theatre Festival celebrates its 50th edition with a programme, in different formats, full of social and committed theatre. The show will cover theatre in the hall, street theatre and micro-theatre, as well as other artistic manifestations such as music, educational activities and meetings with the public.
