TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – Clinical Pathology Specialist from Siloam Hospitals Semarang, dr. Nalurita Ng. Sp. PK. urges the public to remain vigilant about the increased transmission of Corona variant virus Omicron (B.1.1.529).
The appeal was delivered through a health talk education entitled “Know the Variants” Omicron, Prevent the Third Wave” quoted, Saturday (8/1/2022).
He said the characteristics of the new variant of the Omicron virus, which spread quickly, included the ability of the virus to cause disease.

“Varian Omicron become a VOC (Variant of Concern) because it is highly contagious and there is a possibility of a decrease in the effectiveness of existing diagnostic tools and vaccines,” he said.
dr. Nalurita explained that the variant spreads quickly and can reinfect survivors or those who have received a dose of vaccine.
Although until now, the risk of hospitalization, severe symptoms and even death due to the Omicron variant is relatively low.

“However, we should remain vigilant because the more people who are affected, the higher the risk of vulnerable groups (elderly, children and comorbid) to be affected, increasing the hospital occupancy rate, full hospitals, and those who need treatment may not be handled,” he explained.
The most ideal examination to detect Corona virus infection to date can be carried out by the PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) or Swab PCR test method.
The swab test method is used to take samples from the nose and throat.
