Climbing to Borobudur Temple is limited to 1,200 people per day, must pay IDR 700,000. All

MAGELANG, KOMPAS.com- Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the government would limit the number of visitors who boarded the hotel Borobudur temple i.e. 1,200 people per day.

This restriction is carried out as an effort to conserve Borobudur Temple as a world cultural heritage.

“So Borobudur can no longer be for everyone to go upstairs because it has started to sink. So it will be limited to 1,200 people per day,” said Luhut, after inaugurating the Borobudur Temple area as an environmentally friendly and sustainable tourist destination, in Magelang Regency, Central Java, Saturday (4/6/2022).

To reduce the number of visits, the ticket price to go up to the world cultural heritage structure is also priced at IDR 700,000 per person for domestic tourists and 100 US dollars per person for foreign tourists.

“Of that amount, foreign tourists are 100 dollars, while domestic (tourists) are Rp. 700,000. School children are given a quota of 25 percent every day by paying Rp. 5,000 per person,” said Luhut.

“Why do we do that, because of recommendations from UNESCO and experts, there has been a decline and wear and tear of the stone (Borobudur Temple),” Luhut continued.

He explained, tickets to ride the Borobudur Temple can be obtained online, and will be integrated with the PeduliLindung application link.

According to Luhut, this system not only makes the community more disciplined, but also makes the Borobudur Temple area environmentally friendly.

Even though it is limited, it is believed that the level of tourist visits will still be high because the Borobudur Temple area has been arranged attractively.

“Around the Borobudur Temple will be made very interesting. If you walk on the boulevard, now it’s very beautiful. If you want to go up, register online,” he said.

Currently, ticket enforcement is still being discussed by the manager and related parties. Luhut estimates that the ticket will be valid from the next month.

“(ticket enforcement) is still being discussed, maybe starting in the next month,” said Luhut.
