The European Climbing Cup in Klagenfurt on Sunday brought home a win for men and third place for women. Not the three-time world champion and Tokyo fixed starter Jakob Schubert, who disappointingly only finished seventh, but national champion Nicolai Uznik won the bouldering competition. Olympic starter Jessica Pilz just made it to the final and ended up third.

“It wasn’t easy because of course you put a little more pressure on yourself at home. That’s why I’m all the more proud that I managed to stay calm in my head and bring my performance. That’s extremely cool, ”said 20-year-old Carinthian Uznik.
For the three-time world climbing champion Schubert, there had been a disappointment when he returned to the competition stage. The 30-year-old Tyrolean failed in the semifinals. He missed the evening session by a zone. A botched dress rehearsal before the World Cup kick-off in a week in Meiringen (SUI).
Schubert had a bad day
“You have to get the tops and create the zones, no matter what is screwed. And I didn’t manage to do that today, ”said the three-time world champion after the four semi-finals, all of which he left unsolved. In the women’s category, Pilz was on course for a home win with two tops for a long time, but things didn’t go as planned on the last boulder. Pilz, Schubert and Co. will travel to the first Bouldering World Cup on Thursday after a two-year break.
