“In recent years, what we have observed is that September is shaping up to be a very dynamic month. As usual, in the first half of the month there are such climatic and meteorological shocks, which subside later,” the expert said on air on NOVA NEWS.
“In connection with the warming of the climate, there is a trend of increasing temperatures in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a huge heat accumulator for our region, for the whole of Southern Europe. And in the cold half-year, as a rule, it dictates the weather conditions. Not only in Bulgaria, but also for all neighboring countries. In recent years, there has been a trend towards very high sea temperatures. It was also 29 degrees in the eastern part of the sea,” added Gachev.
“September, in recent years and even decades, appears to be more rainy. Precipitation statistically increases in this month. This is because of the contrast in temperatures, it can be called an anomaly, if we compare it with the climate of 30-40 years ago. But it’s been a trend for the past few years,” explained the professor.
Prof. Emil Gachev noted that there is a trend of extreme rainfall. “Unit quantities that are for a day, for example over 30 liters per square meter, already lead to the risk of flooding,” he added.
