Italy is preparing to live a meteorological change marked with the arrival of a polar frontwhich will bring sharply declining temperatures and a phase of generalized bad weather. From Monday, November 11, a mass of cold air coming from northern Europe It will move towards the Mediterranean, guided by a broad area of low pressure located between Norway and Sweden.
This cold flow will favor the formation of a cyclone in the Italian seasbringing instability and precipitation. Tuesday, November 12 and Wednesday, November 13 will be the most critical days. It is expected that the cyclone could deepen between Sardinia and the Tyrrhenian Seatriggering widespread and potentially strong storms in many regions of the Central-North.
The contrasts between the cold air and the Mediterranean waters, still warm and rich in energy, will increase the risk of intense phenomena such as storms and local torrential rains. With the drop in temperatures, snow will appear in several areas.
In Piedmont and Liguria, Snowfall could drop to 700 meterswhile in the central-northern Apennines snowfall is expected above 1300/1400 meters of altitude.
This condition will mark a return to the typical winter atmosphere, after weeks of stable weather and above-normal temperatures. In the south and on the larger islands, a second cyclone will always act on Tuesday, bringing widespread storms before moving eastward. This polar irruption represents a true preview of winterbringing with it a change in atmospheric conditions and a net change in temperatures.
Citizens should, therefore, dust off their warm clothing and prepare for colder and more unstable weather.
