Climate: key results of the first week of COP29 (11-22/11)

11-15/11 In the context of the 29th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP29) which is taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan, a Climate Action Conference was held (12-13/ 12) in which the EU was represented by the European Union. the president of the European Council, Charles Michel. According to the Conclusions of the Council adopted last October, Michel claimed a new ambitious calculated common goal, affirming the shared responsibility for the climate crisis and insisting that the donor base had to be expanded. During the rest of the meetings planned within the framework of COP29, the EU will also be represented by Wopke Hoekstra, European Commissioner for Climate Action, and the Hungarian Presidency of the Council. Among other things, it is expected that the COP29 negotiating parties will progress in: (i) the agreement on a new general financing objective for the fight against climate change for the period 2025-2035; (ii) the full operation of the carbon credit allocation mechanisms; (iii) climate change in terms of increased funding and (iv) implementing adaptation measures and enabling ambitious nationally determined contributions (NDCs) planned for 2025.
