Speaking at a conference ahead of his trip to the G20 summit, Johnson said the world is losing out to climate change.
“Humanity as a whole loses at the half-time with a score of 5: 1. We have a long way to go, but we can do it. We have the opportunity to equalize the score, keep the position, come back, but this will require tremendous efforts, “he said.
He noted that if humanity does not take timely measures to combat global warming, then this threatens the world with hunger, migration and conflicts.
“We can bring our children, our grandchildren, our great-grandchildren to a life in which there are not only huge population movements and huge migrations, but also food shortages, water shortages, conflicts,” he said.
Johnson compared the consequences with the fall of the Roman Empire.
“Look at the evidence of the fall of the Roman Empire if you doubt what I am saying … If we don’t act the right way to combat climate change, we can see our civilization, our world also go backwards, and we will send future generations to a life that is far less enjoyable than our own, ”Johnson said.
