The Hessian Ministry of the Environment funds drinking water wells in Offenbacher Dreieichpark with 22,830 euros
“The increasing periods of heat and drought in recent years have shown us that the climate crisis has also reached us in Hesse. In addition to climate protection measures, it is necessary to implement climate adaptation projects. These include, for example, flood protection and green roofs, but also the installation of drinking water wells. In urban areas in particular, these create relief for the population in extreme heat. The city of Offenbach is now receiving the first funding decision for this additional drinking water supply in the amount of 22,830 euros, ”said Climate Protection Minister Priska Hinz in Wiesbaden.
The city is planning to build the drinking fountain in Dreieichpark. “A lot of citizens come here on foot or by bike. There is also access to the playground here. As part of the redesign of the playground and the construction of a new water play facility, a supply line to the drinking water fountain will also be made, ”explained the minister. Offenbach has been a member of the Alliance of Climate Communities since 2009 and therefore receives 100 percent funding. In the years 2021 and 2022, the state will provide an additional 4 million euros from the Corona special fund for climate measures to the municipalities. These funds will be used to top up the funding through the Climate Directive. A total of 7.5 million euros are available annually.
Municipal climate directive
With the municipal climate guidelines, the Hessian Ministry of the Environment promotes climate protection measures as well as climate adaptation measures in municipalities. With this funding offer, municipalities are financially supported by the state, for example with unsealing, greening and shading public areas such as schoolyards, kindergartens and village squares. Roof greening of public buildings and the creation of inner-city water areas can also be financed with this.
