Climate Activists Paralyze Vienna’s Traffic with Adhesive and Sit-Down Protests

Once again, the climate movement “Last Generation Austria” paralyzed Vienna’s traffic with adhesive and sit-down protests. This time the activists blocked several important traffic arteries at the same time.

VIENNA Those who stood in the morning traffic in Vienna on Monday, July 17, once again had to be patient, because the environmental movement “Last Generation Austria” struck again. This time, motorists were hit on several important traffic arteries in Vienna. The first actions started shortly before 8 a.m.

According to the police, there were adhesive and seated protests in the area of the western entrance in front of Schönbrunn Palace, at the Friedensgasse intersection on Schüttelstrasse and at the exits of the A23 into Altmannsdorfer Strasse (both directions):

The climate activists also blocked the Absberg tunnel. According to the police, like the other sticking actions, this was broken up (which the last generation denied at around 8:40 a.m.). Traffic delays can still not be ruled out, it said shortly before 9 a.m.

The agendas of the protesters remained the same: lack of progress in terms of climate neutrality but also CO2 emissions from the “richest one percent”. Slogans such as “The richest are ruining our future” and “We can no longer afford the richest” were emblazoned on the protesters’ banners.

“Instead of fighting the climate crisis in solidarity, the richest 1 percent have been emitting 45 percent more since 1990, while the majority of the population has saved,” criticizes the last generation.
