Climate Activists Occupy Rümlang Forest in Zurich to Prevent Clearing of 6,000 Trees

On Saturday, climate activists occupy the Rümlang Forest near the city of Zurich. They want to prevent it from being cleared. Around 6,000 trees are to be felled there as part of the expansion of the local tree rubble heap.

The climate activists criticize the storage of construction waste at the expense of the forest: “It is a climate crime to destroy eleven hectares of mixed forest while we are in the middle of climate and environmental crises,” says an activist. Behind this is the greed of banks and corporations who want to achieve higher returns with new buildings and luxury renovations. “The expansion of the rubble dump is only necessary as long as the profit-driven demolition craze of the real estate companies determines the cityscape in Zurich,” the activist continued.

The Zurich canton police said to 20 minutes that they were on site and in contact with the activists.
