Several protest actions by the so-called “Last Generation” ran in Munich. The police were there in large numbers.
The climate movement “Last Generation” announced several blockades in Munich on Thursday (24 August). The protests took place at several hot spots in the city. This ticker is continuously updated.
Update, 4 p.m.: More and more political voices are being raised about the many blockade actions in Munich. CSU regional group leader Alexander Dobrindt called for all means of the rule of law to be used to prevent crime – including the controversial preventive detention.

Bavaria’s Justice Minister Georg Eisenreich (CSU) said that the rule of law could not accept crimes in the name of climate protection. “A crime is a crime – good intentions don’t change that.”
CSU General Secretary Martin Huber accused the “last generation” of fighting against mainstream society. “Climate stickers are not activists, but criminals,” said Huber. “It’s good that action is being taken quickly and consistently in Bavaria.”
Update, 3:45 p.m.: On the fringes of the various blockades in Munich, the “Last Generation” announced in a press release that they would not accept the invitation to the IAA in early September. The Association of the Automotive Industry offered them, as well as Fridays for Future and Greenpeace, the opportunity to set up an information stand and take part in discussions.

“We are not available for such a transparent appropriation,” said the last generation on Thursday on behalf of the three organizations. The protest for climate-friendly and nature-friendly mobility, in which the car is not the focus, cannot be part of the IAA “industry show”. Instead, the climate activists and environmental organizations invited the “lobby association VDA” to a panel discussion three days before the opening of the IAA. A spokesman confirmed this. “We want dialogue,” he emphasized.

Climate activists are currently holding another blockade – at a location that was already the scene of one this morning. As reported by the police, the climate activists are currently blocking Trappentreustrasse again in the direction of Donnersbergerbrücke. About seven people are believed to be involved.
Updated at 11:03 a.m.: The climate movement “Last Generation” followed up its announcements with action. They recently described the city of Munich as the “stronghold” of the movement, where they wanted to hold more actions. That’s exactly what they did on Thursday (24 August) at several hot spots in the state capital. First, two blockades were held in the immediate vicinity of Stachus, before continuing at other locations. Affected were Maximilianstrasse, Von-Der-Tann-Strasse, the Friedensengel, Trappentreustrasse in the direction of Donnersbergerbrücke and the driveway out of town to Friedenheimer Brücke.

The blockades caused brief traffic disturbances around the affected areas. Police spokesman Andreas Franken spoke to tz of “passive resistance” that the 35-40 activists offered to the approximately 200 police officers deployed.
However, even today, there is no end in sight to the blockades. Other actions could happen again at any time. Particularly in view of Chancellor Scholz’s (SPD) visit to Munich today, the police are not expecting the situation to finally calm down.

Update, 9:35 a.m.: According to eyewitnesses, there were sometimes violent clashes between activists and taxi drivers and truck drivers around the current blockade on Von-der-Tann-Straße in Munich. As eyewitnesses reported, individuals were on the verge of becoming violent and pulling the activists off the streets.
