Climate activists block the port entrance in Dover

DOVER (dpa-AFX) – Climate activists from the organization “Insulate Britain” blocked the entrance to the port of Dover on Friday morning. A spokeswoman for the port police confirmed this on request. Trucks and other vehicles trying to reach the port are currently unable to get through. The police are on site. Traffic jams reportedly formed in front of the port.

The activists of “Insulate Britain” had already caused serious disruptions in traffic several times in the past few weeks with their actions – for example by sticking to the lanes of the M25 motorway. “We have to speak the truth about the acute horror of the climate crisis,” said a spokesman for the organization. Big changes on a necessary scale are needed quickly.

This Friday, the organization Fridays for Future called for climate strikes in more than 80 countries around the world to demand a more ambitious climate protection policy from those responsible.

In Great Britain, however, organizations like “Insulate Britain” or “Extinction Rebellion”, which focus on civil disobedience, are much more present in the public sphere. The conservative government, which writes climate protection as a high priority, takes a hard hand against the protesters./swe/DP/stw
