The company Climat Maison inc. de Sainte-Marie and its president Philippe St-Antoine were fined for engaging in itinerant merchant activities without holding the required permit.
They were also accused of not having used a compliant contract with an annex informing the consumer of their right to cancel the contract within 10 days.
They were also found guilty of using a pretext to solicit the sale of a heat pump, namely to obtain an appointment for a home inspection in order to evaluate ways to save energy and to verify the consumer’s eligibility for a subsidy, to have falsely claimed to be associated with the APCHQ, the CMMTQ and the RBQ and to have made false or misleading representations, or to assert that the client would have nothing to pay and that she would be entitled to government subsidies.
For all these infractions, the company will have to pay a fine of $17,586 while its president will have to pay $6,366.
An employee of Climat Maison inc, representative Benjamin Paris, was also ordered to pay the sum of $3,030 for violations of the Consumer Protection Act.
According to the Consumer Protection Office, the offenses for which they were found guilty were committed in Shawinigan in January 2020.
