Pneumococcal vaccination
Pneumococci are bacteria that can sometimes have serious consequences, especially in people over the age of 60 and in vulnerable people, including clients of residential care centers and nursing homes.
Vaccination every 5 years
Vaccination against pneumococci (PPV23) is done every 5 years and provides protection against pneumococci. In the fall of 2022, people aged 66-69 (born 1-1-1953 to 12-31-1956) will receive an invitation for a free pneumococcal vaccination. The vaccination works for 5 years. Customers who live with Pieter van Foreste and belong to this specific group and are eligible will also receive an invitation. They will receive the invitation this week with more information about this vaccination and a consent form to indicate if they wish to use it.
This concerns the following customer group:
Clients with care AND treatment (clients of the nursing home under the medical responsibility of Pieter van Forest’s geriatric specialist) IN that meet the following criteria:
- from 66 to 69 years (born from 1-1-1953 to 12-31-1956) = National vaccination group plan 2022
Why vaccinate?
Pneumococci can make people sick, sometimes this can have serious consequences. This is especially true for people over the age of 60 and for people who are vulnerable/already have a disease. The immune system gets worse with age. Vaccination reduces the chance of getting pneumococci. Vaccination ensures that the body makes “antibodies” against pneumococcal bacteria. These antibodies protect the body from the more common pneumococci, but they cannot prevent all pneumococcal diseases.
Vaccination in November/December
Vaccination takes place in November and/or early December. The vaccination is administered at the place where the clients live. A customer therefore does not have to travel. Vaccination is free and voluntary. The invitation includes a (consent) form to indicate whether you wish to avail yourself of the vaccination.
