So how do you make the internet a sustainable technology?
Our digital uses (internet, connected TV, video games, connected objects, etc.) already consume 10% of the world’s electricity. The phenomenon is however little known to the general public, particularly the youngest who are the first digital users and will inherit an overheated planet.
Filled with references that speak to teenagers, the book sifts through their favorite hobbies – social networks, games, video platforms – to make them aware of the carbon impact of each click, scroll, and other like. Here, we talk about Tik-Tok, porn, bitcoin, Fortnite and Netflix while revealing the smoke behind the screens. We also address the issue of equipment: telephones, tablets, computers, boxes… the manufacture of which is also an energy gulf and an ecological disaster. And because for this target a picture is worth 1,000 words, all the data is illustrated, and de-dramatized with caustic acid by the illustrator Dirtypote.
But there is no question of leaving this generation that is committed to the climate unresolved. To click is to pollute teaches the virtuous gestures of digital sobriety, and indicates the good reflexes in terms of recycling and reconditioning.
Crossing Internet and ecology, “To click is to pollute» arrives just in time, for a target as comfortable on the internet as in climate marches.
