Clever Thugs Arrested for Spy Camera Attacks on Stores: Val-d’Oise Duo Apprehended in the Act

These clever thugs attack stores in an unusual way. To overcome defenses, they install spy cameras to recover codes. Seven months after their first attack, they have just been arrested. The two men, aged 40 and 45, were arrested, in flagrante delicto, during the night from Saturday to Sunday October 1 on a road between Sarcelles and Gonesse, in Val-d’Oise, when they had just attempt once again to loot a business.

It was last March that this duo came into the crosshairs of investigators from the Val-d’Oise departmental security in Herblay. At 9:40 a.m., on Boulevard du Havre, a patrol came to check the damage at the Easy Cash store. The main door is damaged. The video surveillance system is destroyed.

The display cases which contained gold were broken and looted. The criminals pocketed 250,000 euros in cash. They stole 43,000 euros worth of watches and 65,000 euros worth of telephones. Attempts multiplied in the Paris region in the weeks that followed. “In Sarcelles where the same sign was broken, a security agent discovered a mini-camera in his workplace before reporting it to the police,” specifies a source close to the case.

A duo of seasoned professionals

The police understand that these cunning thugs always use the same method. During the day, they come to these stores which buy second-hand items. They also target DIY stores where customers pay in bank notes. The thugs discreetly place their spying devices there. Thanks to the images they record, they recover all the security codes from the digicodes and alarms of their targets.

The thieves then return during the night, break down the door and take anything of value. This duo is made up of seasoned professionals, they regularly change the registrations of their cars. These two men, who live in Tourcoing (North) and Livry-Gargan (Seine-Saint-Denis), do a lot of scouting before taking action. They are suspected of having committed several thefts and attempted thefts, particularly in Val-d’Oise but also in Vigneux-sur-Seine (Essonne).

Defeated by a BIS team

The investigators were supported by their colleagues from the research and intervention brigade (BRI) of Versailles (Yvelines), specialists in surveillance and risky arrests. At the start of the week, under the gaze of the agents, who don’t miss a beat, the duo sets their sights for the second time on the second-hand goods store in Sarcelles. “This time, they were confronted with an iron curtain, installed by the management after their passage. This kept them in check,” notes a source close to the investigation.

At two o’clock in the morning, while they were returning empty-handed, the bandits were stopped on the road by the BRI. The officials surround them with their cars before handcuffing them. During the searches, carried out in their vehicle, they found hoods, gloves, a police flashing light, tools and numerous micro cameras.

The two men were placed in police custody in Cergy for theft in meetings and criminal conspiracy. Their hearings are still in progress. The Pontoise public prosecutor’s office has not yet decided what action it intends to take in this matter.
