The long-awaited Pirelli annual calendar announces a return to consciousness this year. Fashion photographer and former model Ethan James Green was immediately clear about the tone of this year’s images. “I wanted to go back to the generic classes, that is, what we think of when we hear the word Pirelli,” he said. That is also why celebrities and modeling stars co- contemporary taking turns in front of his lens.
“We all enter this life naked. This is the best way to capture our true selves,” said calendar author Ethan James Green. It drew inspiration from previous Pirelli calendars, such as the one shot by Herb Ritts in 1994 featuring 90s supermodels Kate Moss and Cindy Crawford posing naked on a beach in the Bahamas.
He himself chose the exotic environment of the Miami Keys for the photo shoot. When he explained his vision to the Pirelli team, they immediately agreed. “They wanted the exact thing. It was perfect,” he said.
Celebrities standing for the 2025 edition include British actress Simone Ashley, who appeared on the 2022 Forbes 30 under 30 list, British actor John Boyega, French actor Vincent Cassel, Italian singer, actress and model Elodie Di Patrizi, Indian-American author, model and TV presenter Padma Lakshmi or British actress Jodie Turner-Smith. The calendar will be officially presented in November in London.
Photographer Ethan James Green (34) is from Michigan and now lives in New York. His work focuses on topics such as contemporary identity, sexuality and style. His first book, Young New York (2019), featured portraits of friends and associates that capture the diversity of queer identities in New York. His second monograph, Bombshell (2024), breaks stereotypes about the “sex bomb” and challenges models to express their own ideas about women and glamour.
The Pirelli calendar has more than fifty years of history. It was first introduced in 1964. It is always printed in limited editions and is not intended to be sold, you have to get it. However, its uniqueness is not only in this, but also in the selection of top photographers and amazing pictures. The only copy in the Czech Republic is sold every year to support the Masaryk Institute of Oncology.
