For Kine Skasberg, clementines are the Christmas fruit of all, but on Tuesday this week she got an unpleasant surprise.
– My boyfriend had bought some different things and came home with clementines. I was going to enjoy one of them, but when I peeled it, larvae came out, says Skasberg to DinSide.

– I got goosebumps, and then I felt a little nauseous. I think it was a bit gross. And then I thought that now there will be no clementines this Christmas.
It was Smaalenenes Avis who first mentioned the matter.
Fortunately, Skasberg discovered the larvae before she had time to eat anything.
– I spotted some, and then we peeled a little more, and then we saw that there were many of them.

– I’m probably a little picky about insects in food anyway, but it would almost be worse if they moved. They didn’t.
Mediterranean fly larvae
The clementines were purchased at Spar at Sperrebotn in Østfold, and it is Bama that supplies clementines to Spar.
DinSide has not been able to get in touch with Bama, but communications adviser at Bama, Anne Victoria Frogner, tells Smaalenenes Avis that it is probably larvae from Mediterranean flies.
– From time to time there may be a small passenger, unfortunately. Our clementines grow outside and it also lives there, says Frogner to the newspaper.
It shouldn’t be dangerous.
– We understand that it is uncomfortable, but there is no health risk or danger. As of today, it is not possible to see through clementines or other citrus. This is something we hope will eventually become possible.
Skasberg has put the larvae in alcohol, in case Bama wants to check the matter further.
Reduces sweet cravings
Skasberg is very fond of clementines, and eats a lot of them around Christmas time.
– It’s a bit to avoid eating too many sweets, so then I eat a lot of clementines, it calms a sugar craving. But then I probably thought that oh, now that we are finally starting to buy a lot of clementines, I lost my desire.

Skasberg has not eaten clementines since the experience.
– I had eaten several the day I got this, but then it just stopped. It’s not tempting yet.
Some of the Christmas joy is ruined
Skasberg says that she has eaten an enormous amount of clementines, but that she has never seen anything like them before.
They definitely put a damper on the Christmas cheer.
– Clementines are an important part of Christmas, but this has ruined a little of the Christmas joy.
She hasn’t thrown away the rest of the clementines, but she hasn’t been able to touch them yet.
– But it will be Christmas, and fortunately there are many other things that count than clementines. I’ll probably have a nice Christmas for it.
