Clearer, ‘naked’ Russian stealth fighter jet

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Russia on Tuesday (20/7) unveiled its newest Sukhoi stealth fighter jet as a competitor to the US-made F-35 stealth fighter jet. This single-engine stealth fighter jet is able to attack six targets simultaneously, finally appearing ‘naked’ before being covered in black cloth.

As reported Moscow Times, This fighter jet nicknamed “The Checkmate” was first shown to President Vladimir Putin who was reportedly “satisfied” ahead of its launch at the biannual MAKS 2021 air show.

The report revealed that this fighter jet was produced in May 2020. After yesterday’s launch, some details of this fighter jet became clear. The jet was developed by defense and technology giant Rostec and Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation.

“Our task is for this aircraft to be mass-produced to customers starting in 2026,” said United Aircraft Corporation general director Yury Slyusar.

Rostec describes the aircraft as a fifth-generation single-engine light fighter jet that incorporates “innovative solutions” including artificial intelligence. The jets can strike up to six targets simultaneously on land, air or sea, “even under conditions of strong electronic interference,” explains Rostec.

With a price tag of between US$25-30 million (21-25 million euros), it will be able to carry a drone and launch while flying.

Slyusar said he expects nearly 300 orders in the next 15 years mainly from the Middle East, Asia and Latin America at the price.

He said the planes were capable of destroying “fifth-generation foreign aircraft” and were “designed to withstand sixth-generation systems that may emerge in the next few decades.”

Slyusar said he was sure Putin was fasting when he saw this F-35 competitor aircraft. Yesterday, Putin praised the Russian aviation industry at the inauguration of the MAKS 2021 show. “The Russian aviation industry has great potential for development, and our aircraft industry continues to create competitive new aircraft,” Putin said.
