“Clear Water Flooding in Suryakencana Square, Mount Gede Pangrango”

Jakarta

Floods are not always brown or other dark colors. The phenomenon of flooding with clear water also occurred in Suryakencana Square, Mount Gede Pangrango.

Previously, the manager of Mount Gede Pangrango had announced to close the hiking trails with one of the reasons being the existence of a puddle. It’s true, it’s not just a puddle, but floods hit Suryakencana Square.

A different view is presented by the videos circulating on the climbing community accounts. In the Pendaki Lawas account, re-uploading posts from other climbers’ accounts, a video was uploaded showing a flood in Suryakencana Square with brown water.

Now, there is another view of a different flood in Suryakencana Square. The water flow looks big with water that is so clear.

Even one of the climbers had time to swim into it, like throwing himself into the river because it was so big. The climber is Samsul.

“(The clear flood) was due to heavy rainfall. It happened in April and it just happened to be clear,” Samsul explained, confirmed by detikTravel, Saturday (27/5/2023).

Samsul said that on his ascent that day it was accompanied by a long rain. When it subsided, he then went to the middle of Suryakencana Square and found clear water flowing like a spilling river.

“Incidentally, that day we camped at the Surken entrance at the east entrance. Meanwhile, the middle one is in the middle of Suryakencana,” he explained.

Now, the manager of Mount Gede Pangrango has reopened the hiking trail. Travelers are expected to comply with existing regulations if they want to climb there.

“Friend Gepang, admin just wants to remind you again that if the climb is open, don’t forget to register officially via online booking, go up via official routes, don’t litter, obey the rules and stay healthy,” said the manager.

So, clear floods do not only occur in Suryakencana Square, Mount Gede Pangrango. In 2019, Japan also experienced clear floods after being hit by a storm. That happened because of their discipline not to litter.
