The first of two home games this week was on the agenda. TVB Stuttgart welcomed VfL Gummersbach on the early 10th matchday of the DAIKIN Handball Bundesliga. After ten catastrophic minutes in the first half, the burden was too great to score any more points. TVB Stuttgart lost 28:35 against VfL Gummersbach.
Kai Häfner and Gianfranco Pribetić continued in the first attack where they had left off in Erlangen. The Croatian scored the first goal of the match. The match started slowly on this Wednesday evening. It was Gummersbach who took the lead for the first time with a 3-goal run. Daniel Fernández equalized after a nice run-in – 3:3 in the 9th minute. Kai Häfner, in his 500th Bundesliga game, took control of Stuttgart’s attacking game as he often does. He beat the visiting goalkeeper Dominik Kuzmanović with a slap shot. The first half was goal-poor in the first quarter of an hour, but Gianfranco Pribetić put the home team 6:5 ahead in the 16th minute. After a weak phase for Stuttgart, Michael Schweikardt was forced to take his first time-out of the evening with the score at 9:12 – 23rd minute. The plug seemed to be pulled in the Swabians’ game, after Gianfranco Pribetić’s goal in the 21st minute, the Swabians completely lost the plot. The Swabians had no offensive or defensive ideas until halftime. They went into the dressing rooms of the Stuttgart Porsche Arena with a score of 9:18 for VfL Gummersbach.
Lenny Rubin ended VfL Gummersbach’s 11-goal run across the half. Stuttgart started the second half well, but had to make up a huge deficit due to a total failure at the end of the first half. With a five-goal run, the Swabians got back to within six goals – 14:20 in the 38th minute. Daniel Fernández hit Dominik Kuzmanović in the face from the seven-meter line and was shown the red card for this action in the 41st minute. Lukas Laube scored his first goal after a long injury break. The burden seemed too great, the WILD BOYS were unable to significantly reduce the lead – 19:26 in the 49th minute. Nico Schöttle was a standout for Stuttgart on this Wednesday evening, scoring seven goals at the end of the day. After 60 minutes of play on Wednesday evening, Stuttgart had to admit defeat with a clear score of 28:35.
