Cleaning of the Chapelle stream north of the village of Rustiques

In Rustiques, the retention basin upstream of the village is regularly monitored. At the initiative of Smmar (Joint Union of Aquatic Environments and Rivers) at the beginning of January 2021, the Chapelle stream was cleaned over more than 1.5 kilometers to promote its flow.

The Smmar is an organization set up after the floods of 1999, intended to prevent and manage floods on the scale of the Aude watershed.

It brings together 438 municipalities in several departments (Aude and bordering) grouped into 7 river unions with an operational role.

Our village depends on the Aude Center union which brings together 100 municipalities from the Montagne Noire to Piedmont d’Alaric via the Minervois; 500 km of small streams are affected… mostly dry.

Smmar’s mission: to protect people and property by promoting the good ecological condition of waterways and reducing vulnerability to prevent devastating effects: cleaning work, creation of flood expansion fields, construction of structures , repair of damage.

80% of the works are financed by funds involving the State, the Region, the Department, the Water Agency, and 20% by the Gemapi tax.

We must thank the president of Smmar Éric Ménassi, mayor of Trèbes, and the president of the Aude Center union, Christian Magro, mayor of La Redorte, for this work which reduces the vulnerability of the village to the risk of flooding.
