The strike of dignity. That is how they call their protest today and tomorrow the workers -the vast majority are women- cleaning buildings and premises in A Coruña. An essential sector during this pandemic and, despite that, one of the most precarious. They do not exceed 600 euros per month and have their salary frozen since the beginning of 2019. This morning they gathered at the headquarters of the Confederation of Entrepreneurs, in Plaza Luís Seoane. Tomorrow they will do it in front of the San Caetano building to urge the Xunta to mediate in the conflict.
Of the 10,000 female employees in the province, 70% do so on part-time contracts. The employer’s proposal for a salary increase is 1%, which seems completely insufficient.
The strike of the “yellow mops” as they call it today and tomorrow it will be noticed not only in buildings and offices but also in those of the Xunta, the Galician Parliament, Valedor do Povo and the Santiago University Campus.
